Granite, on top colourfully painted with lying baby. 35 x 22,5 x 8 cm, paving stone base: h. 11 cm. - According to tradition, the deceased wife of the consignor was the granddaughter of the owners of a printing house and cliché factory in Copenhagen, who were close friends of Heerup. The stone was probably a gift 'among friends' and was freshened up in colour by the artist himself when they moved out of the large flat in Copenhagen. - Provenance: Private property Southern Germany. - Danish sculptor, painter and composer, since 1949 member of the artist group 'Cobra', received his education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, debuted in the 1930s with recycled art, assemblages from scrap and waste of all kinds as well as sculptures made of granite, became known mainly for his colour-intensive and expressive lithographs with themes from the world of Danish myths and folk tales.
