Designed 1884. Signed 'J. Uphues', foundry stamp 'Aktien Gesellschaft Gladenbeck Friedrichshagen'. Patina worn, arrow missing. Figure: h. 37 cm, marbled bronze mounted base (replaced): h. 9,5 cm. - The sculptor created the antique-inspired subject of the archer in 1884 and received the gold medal for it in Melbourne in 1889. The Gladenbeck bronze foundry offered them in different sizes. - German sculptor. As a master student of Reinhold Begas, Uphues was an esteemed monument sculptor of the Wilhelminian era.
