1956. Oil/cardboard, 51,5 x 73 cm, lo. le. sign. and dat. Westpfahl 56. - German painter. W. studied 1911-13 with E. Orlik in Berlin, then in Paris with F. Valloton at the Académie Ranson. From 1925 he exhibited at the Berlin Secession and the Academy. Another stay in Paris in 1930-33 brought W. the turn to abstraction. Under pressure from the National Socialists he went into exile in Greece in 1936. After the war, W. was recognized as one of the leading representatives of Informel painting in Germany, among other things through invitations to the Villa Massimo and the Villa Romana.
