Murun Mountains, Yakutia, north of Lake Baikal, SiberiaFound only in 1997 in the same locality as another famous Russian mineral, charoite, dianite became immediately popular because of its unique royal blue color, often found in various shades ranging from light to dark. The stone was named dianite, to commemorate Diana, Princess of Wales, who perished at approximately the same date as the occurrence of the find. While its structure is similar to that of nephrite (dianite is in fact an amphibole), and it often called "blue nephrite" or "Siberian blue jade" they are, in fact, two distinct mineral species. The mine which produced these examples of dianite was a particularly small find which has now been exhausted. This rare mineral has been carved into a tazza or presentation bowl of traditional Russian design. To find such a large specimen of high quality is unheard of in today's market and this is a fine decorative piece with mineralogical significance. Measuring 11 x 11 x 7 in
