水注，也称“水滴”、“砚滴”，是古代文人磨墨饰用来装水、滴水的用具，注水于砚面供研磨之用。
此水注作鸳鸯昂首翘尾，蹲伏之状，身形饱满，头部雕琢古韵典雅，喙为流，腹中空，背部有一圆形小口以供注水，构思巧妙，颈部、翅部以卷草纹、如意纹、团花纹表示鸳鸯羽翼，并予以漆金，华丽之气难掩。
整器铸胎厚重，沉甸至极，工艺精良，造型饱满丰盈，又不失活泼可爱，兼具实用与审美于一体，体现出古代工匠丰富的想象力，颇为难得。
