此件捧盒圆正端庄，以鼓为范本化裁而来，造型新颖，别出心裁。平底、弧壁、平底，盖、身子母口相扣合，上下缘饰鼓钉纹各一周，外壁及顶面髹赭褐色大漆，底面髹黑漆，漆质温润，传承年代久远，浮光尽褪。
整器装饰简洁，虽为两色漆，却单纯而不简陋，朴实而不粗糙，光泽柔和，清雅高贵，予人以“天然去雕饰”之感。
故宫博物院藏有多件此种“鼓式”造型的捧盒，可做赏鉴。
