乾隆一朝颜色釉瓷器传承雍正时期之风格，成就斐然，在著名督陶官唐英的努力钻研中，创烧出摹制各种材质的色釉，如竹木、玉石、金银、青铜等，极一时之能事，开一代未有之奇。仿古铜釉即为其中一项，历来为世人所重，陈浏在《陶雅》中就有评述：「古铜彩独推乾隆朝，花纹皆凸雕夔龙、云雷，青绿殊可珍玩。款皆篆字，或凸雕，或以金写之」。
