胭脂红创烧于清康熙末年，原为珐琅彩料之一，以微量金作着色剂，由欧洲传入，故被称为“洋金红”或“西洋红”，因其色如胭脂，故名。由于烧制不易，提纯困难，历来颇为名贵。《陶雅》谓之“华贵中之佚丽者也……匀净明艳，殆亡伦比。紫晶逊其鲜妍，玫瑰无其娇丽”。
盘身内外施胭脂红釉，釉面肥腴滋润，色泽浓艳均匀，色调沉着含蓄。
