A Chinese gilt wood statue of a buddha, possibly Medicine Buddha, dating from the Ming dynasty. He sits in padmasana on a single lotus pedestal with his left hand across his lap in dhyana mudra, possibly originally holding an alms bowl. His right hand rests on his knee palm up with the thumb and middle finger touching, possibly originally holding an arura fruit. The buddha wears a simple robe over both shoulders. On his forehead is a small indentation for an urna, and on front part of his hair is a round, red ushnisha. Dimensions are: 33 inches tall X 22 inches long X 18 inches wide, 83.8 cm X 55.9 cm X 45.7 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There is widespread, significant, severe damage throughout including loss to the surface, breakage, and cracking. Gilt wear. A reminder that all lots are sold as-is. We have sought to record the changes in the condition of this piece after its initial manufacture as diligently as possible; however, as stated in our terms, condition reports are statements of opinion and not representations or warranties.
