Pair of Heppelwhite chairs; England; second half of the 18th century. Wood. With faults and carving restorations on one of the backs. Old restorations. Measurements: 93 x 57 x 48 cm (x2). Pair of chairs inspired by the works of George Hepplewhite (1727-1786), whose furniture dominated the English market in the last quarter of the 18th century. Thus, we see three individual shield-shaped backrests with flat, curved bars around a lower crescent. George Hepplewhithe (1727 - 1786) was an important maker of chairs and cabinets, one of the 'big three' of 18th-century English cabinetmaking, along with Thomas Sheraton and Thomas Chippendale. Hepplewhite gave his name to a whole style, light and elegant, which was fashionable from the last quarter of the 18th century into the 19th century and is still valued today. Dimensions 93 x 57 x 48 cm (x2).
