Italian school; 17th century. "Classical scene". Oil on panel. It has damages and a label on the back. Measurements: 66 x 36 Scene of vertical format in which a classical theme is developed. The piece is structured in several planes, which follow each other in depth. In the first place, a group of men can be seen gathered around a bonfire, pointing to the fire and looking upwards. In the highest area, located in the background, we can see the presence of a man dressed only in a cloak, which strategically covers his semi-naked body. Both his peculiar presence in relation to the rest of the figures and his position in the composition suggest to the viewer that he is the main protagonist of the scene. Finally, the scene is completed with a last shot in which a multitude of figures can be slightly appreciated. The work may be iconographically related to the myth of Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods to give it to humans, who had been forbidden it by Zeus. To achieve this Prometheus climbed Mount Olympus, although other versions say that he stole it from Hephaistos. In order to bring fire to men, Prometheus used a reed. In this particular case the reed is not visible, but you can see how the men enjoy the fire. Dimensions 66 x 36
