A pair of Chinese Imari porcelain plates, 18th century, each with a bird in a flowering tree, diameter 23cm and another pair decorated with trees in a fenced garden, diameter 23cm. Provenance: Michael Trethewey. A Gentleman of Taste. We are delighted to be selling in this sale and over forthcoming sales, items from the estate of the collector Michael Trethewey. Michael had an unerring eye for quality. He was a frequent visitor to these auction rooms, an elegantly dressed, unassuming man who bought well and had a singular passion for old school antiques. We are honoured to be handling his estate and as well as the items in this Asian sale we will be selling further pieces from his extensive collection in our September 2nd Antique Sale and across our range of upcoming specialist sales. Condition report: Single short faint hairline to the bird decorated plates and one has chips to the rim. The other pair, one has two pieces broken off the rim and a sort hairline on rim, the other one is good.
