AN OCTAFOIL-SHAPED BRONZE MIRROR. Korea, Goryeo dynasty, 10th–13th or China, Song/Jin dynasty, Ø 17 cm. Featuring Ci Fei, the Dragon Slayer on a small boat sailing through choppy seas. Inscription: huang ji chang tian (kor. huang pi ch'ang ch'on). Many of these mirrors were unearthed in Kaesong, the capital of Goryeo, but others have also been found in China and dated to the Song/Jin dynasty. Compare with the exhibition catalogue: Entdeckung Korea! Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, 2011-13. Kat. No. 84-86, p. 344-346. An almost identical piece from the collection of Robert H. Ellsworth was described as a Song dynasty object at Christies New York 22.03.2012 lot 1470. Achtpassiger Bronzespiegel mit grüner Patina. Die reliefierte Szene zeigt Ci Fei im Kampf mit einem Seemonster in wild bewegten Wellen auf einem Schiff mit hohem Mast. Inschrift in archaischer Siegelschrift: huang ji chang tian (sein Glanz ist so groß wie das Sonnenlicht). Es existieren verschiedene Varianten dieses Themas, viele ausgegraben in Kaesong, der früheren Hauptstadt der Goryeo Dynastie - aber auch in China aus der Song- und Jin-Zeit. Vgl.
