本件信筒为西藏上层僧侣或者贵族所使用的实用器，主要用途是保护书信内容不外泄，其通体为合金铜铸造，镂空铸造丰富龙凤穿花纹。信筒分盖与身两部分，形态纤细修长。盖与身连接处各设一圆环，为锁闭信筒所用，首尾各饰一钮。盖与身皆镂雕龙穿花纹样，龙纹刚劲有力，生动而富有变化。龙张口露齿，展翼伸爪，腾空飞跃穿立于莲花之侧，身躯矫健灵活，与花枝柔美舒卷之状相呼应，繁缛精细，层次分明。该信筒工艺精湛，上下纹饰浑然一体，镂雕穿花龙纹，花枝缠绕，游龙气势威猛。通体鎏金，工艺精湛，线条流畅，气势磅礴，使用者身份等级非常高。
