A Chinese bronze statue of Shakyamuni Buddha dating from the early Ming dynasty. He sits in dhyanasana on a double lotus pedestal with his hands in bhumisparsha mudra. His robe is without decoration. Dimensions are: 13 inches tall X 9 inches wide, 33 cm X 22.9 cm. Weight: 3800 grams. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There is a large area of repair to the back. Gilt worn away. Provenance: From the collection of Mr. Williams in Texas. Mr. Williams has more than 50 years of collecting experience in Buddhist sculptures, paintings, and ritual objects from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, and the Central Plains of China. He has participated in sales around the world including in Hong Kong and throughout Tibet and Europe. This lot was purchased from Bonhams Auction House. Similar examples are currently housed in the British Museum under accession number 1986,0515.10 and in the Anji County Museum of Zhejiang province in China. Similar examples have been sold at Bonhams London on November 5, 2020, as lot 198 and at China Guardian International Auction Company on November 16, 2013, as lot 5480.
