Fonderies d'Art du Val d'Osne (French, founded 1835), circa 1880. After Georges Prosper Clere (French, 1829-1895), bronze over iron torchere or torchiere figure of a vestal maiden, holding aloft a sacrificial type lamp with colorless cut glass acorn form shade. Signed in mould to base "Val D'Osne". Literature: This figure appears in the circa 1877 "Societe Anonyme Des Hauts-Fourneaux & Founderies Du Val-D'Osne" sales catalog, plate 374, "candelabres" number 196. Approx. Overall, h. 79", dia. 30".
