STAFFORDSHIRE AMERICAN VIEW TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC CREAMER, featuring the Boston State House to one side and reverse depicting a three-story building with "AMERICAN MUSEUM" printed to sign on front, from the Vine Border series. Printed "Q" to underside, otherwise unmarked. Ralph Stevenson & Williams, Cobridge, England. 1825-1827. 5 1/2" HOA. Very good visual condition, having some professional restoration including spout, with light hairline to body, barely visible due to decoration. Literature: Parallels the Armans - Historical Staffordshire, An Illustrated Check-List (First Supplement), p. 52, #364 (not illustrated) and p. 56, #384 (not illustrated); Transferware Collectors Club database pattern #9890. Provenance: From the collection of Nick Routson, Phoenix, AZ.Cowan's, 4/12/2014, lot 153.From the Estate of Kenneth Erwin, Portland, MI. Catalogue Note: According to Mr. Routson, this creamer "is extremely rare and the two patterns are the rarest in the RS & W Stevenson Vine" border series. He states that "there are only four known examples with these views in this series, one being in the Larsen collection at the Smithsonian."
