MONTGOMERY CO., PENNSYLVANIA ATTRIBUTED PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, center signed "Elizabeth Slough's / Work 1825" within a foliate frame, surrounded by various floral motifs, two birds on branches, and two eight-point stars, below depicting a finely embroidered landscape including two houses, a weeping willow, two pine trees with a fence between them, and a large butterfly, three sides with scrolling flowering-vine border. Housed under UV glass and conservation mounted in the original molded frame. Lot includes a copy of M. Finkel & Daughter, "Samplings: XXXV", 2009. Dated 1825. 20 1/2" x 15 1/2" sight, 22 3/8" x 17 1/2" OA. Excellent overall condition with light fading and fugitive color to some thread, frame with wear, surface scratches, marks, and a loss to top edge. Not examined out of frame. Published: M. Finkel & Daughter - Samplings: XXXV, p. 10, bottom sampler and back cover, bottom fig. Provenance: From the collection of Nick Routson, Phoenix, AZ.M.
