LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA ATTRIBUTED PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, top with four-row verse from a religious hymn, surrounded by various motifs including flowers, butterflies, and baskets, signed in bottom center "Mary Simpson / 1834 / Lancaster May 2nd", all encompassed by a scrolling flowering-vine border. Housed under UV glass in a veneer frame. Dated 1834. 17 1/2" x 16 1/2" sight, 23" x 22 1/8" OA. Very good visual condition with some light toning and scattered holes to linen, light fading and fugitive color to some thread, frame with wear, cracks and losses to veneer.
