Thomas Penn Document Signed. One page, 12.25" x 7.75", Philadelphia; Pennsylvania; July 2, 1741. A document granting a land survey to Peter Noxon of the County of Newcastle for "four hundred acres of land…in the said County." Signed, "Tho Penn." With blind embossed paper seal at left. Thomas Penn (1702-1775) was the second son of William Penn, the founder of the Pennsylvania Colony. When his father died in 1718, Thomas and two brothers became the proprietors for the English colony, although Thomas became the principal proprietor in 1746. He returned to England, where he was born, in 1751, and married Juliana, twenty-seven years his junior and the daughter of the 2nd Earl of Pomfret. He sent his nephew, John Penn, to govern in his stead. Condition: Offsetting from seal due to document being stored while folded. Tape repairs to folds on verso with one repair on recto. Lightly toned from age. Slight edgewear with some minor chipping. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
