Wolfgang Pauli Autograph Letter Signed with Signed Envelope and Nobel Prize Lecture. Wolfgang Pauli Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8.25" x 5.75", Zurich; January 15, 1955. The letter, addressed to Frank Groom Kirtz, reads in full: "Everything on the history of the Exclusion Principle, which is of general interest I have published in my Nobel-lecture, of which I am sending to you a copy in separate mail. The story of the theatre and the dancers is complete nonsense and absolutely untrue." Signed, "W. Pauli." Signed envelope is included and measures 6.25" x 4.5". Pauli was a devotee of the theater, so much so that he was briefly married to a cabaret dancer, Käthe Margarethe Deppner, though the marriage only lasted for a year. It is presumed the final line of the letter may be related to this period of his life. Nobel lecture titled, "Exclusion Principle and Quantum Mechanics," Les Prix Nobel en 1946: Stockholm, 1948. 16 pages. 6.5" x 9.75". Envelope is included and measures 10.75" x 7.5". Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) was an Austrian theoretical physicist. In 1925 he discovered that in an atom no two electrons can occupy the same quantum state concurrently. This principle, known as the Pauli exclusion principle, solidified his position as a forerunner in quantum physics. He won the Nobel Prize for the discovery in 1945 after being nominated by Albert Einstein, who greatly admired Pauli. Condition: .25" closed tear on top right margin. Lightly age toned with smoothed mail fold. Bottom left corner has flattened crease. Lecture booklet gently rubbed and age toned. Some creasing to envelopes from mailing.
