Dwight D. Eisenhower Typed Letter Signed. One page, 7" x 10.25", Washington; August 1, 1955. In this letter written while he was President, Eisenhower discusses the language of the contentious Bricker Amendment. It was sent to his brother, Edgar, on White House stationery. It reads in full: "I am told that Judge Orie Phillips, Mr. Rankin (Justice Department), Senator Bricker and Loyd Wright have all concluded that the best wording for Section 1 would be ‘Any provision of a treaty or international agreement which conflicts with this Constitution shall be of no force or effect.' I assure you that I shall not oppose any Amendment that is couched in this language, and I would certainly like to see this matter off the books once and for all." Signed, "DE." Condition: Smoothed mail folds with two punch holes at top margin. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
