Robeson, secretary of the navy; Zachariah Chandler, secretary of the interior; James N. Tyner, postmaster general; and Alphonso Taft, attorney general. In addition to the president and his cabinet, members of the Senate and House of Representatives have also signed including William R. King, speaker of the Senate; Linn Boyd, speaker of the House; Senator William H. Seward, future secretary of state under Presidents Lincoln and Johnson; Senator Hannibal Hamlin, future vice president under President Lincoln; Senator Thomas J. Rusk, a former general of the Texian Army who fought during the Texas Revolution and served the Republic of Texas as the first secretary of war; Senator Charles Sumner, whose impassioned "Crime Against Kansas" speech led to his beating on the floor of the Senate; Senator Samuel B. Maxey, a general in the Confederate Army; Senator John B. Gordon, also served in the Confederate Army as a general; Senator Simon Cameron, President Lincoln's secretary of war; Senator John A. Logan, a general in the Union Army; Congressman Thomas S. Bocock, who served as speaker of the Confederate House of Representatives; and many, many more.
