Group of Colonial and Revolutionary War Documents with Massachusetts Militia Content. A collection consisting of twenty assorted Colonial and Revolutionary War documents with three early nineteenth century documents. They range from 1746 to 1812 with the majority dating from 1767 to 1779. There are thirteen holographic documents that relate to military service bounties, rations and supplies during the Revolutionary War. The majority of those are associated with a company of Massachusetts Militia under the command of Captain Peleg Shearman from Col. Thomas Carpenter's Regiment. Also included is a letter from Joseph Jones and one letter from Admiral D. Anson from 1812. Of special note: Charles Findlay Bounty Receipt. One page, 5.75" x 3.5", Cambridge; November 11, 1777. "Sir ples to pay our towns bounty to Mr. Petr Hastings we Belongen in the Conenlel Sirvs and musted for the town of Swansey to Capt Peleg Shermon CamBridge. Signed, " Charles Findlay" and "John Peter Scharff." Docketing on verso indicates the bounty of 148 pounds was paid by Peter Hasten on December 14, 1777. Jonathan Trip Bounty Receipt. One page, 6.25" x 3.75", Swansey [Swansea, Massachusetts]; November 6, 177[7]. "To Capt Peleg Shermon Sir Whareas I have inlisted in the Contental Sarvis for three years for the town of Swanzey and for your company plise to pay to Jabos Barney Seventy four pound which is bount that I am to have form the town and his Rept shall be your discharge for me." Signed, "Jonathan Trip." Docketing on verso indicates the bounty was paid by Jaboz Barney on November 17, 1777. George Anson Certificate of Qualification. One page, 7.25" x 9", Plymouth Sound; November 4, 1746. A certificate recognizing John Weston's qualification as Master of Sixth Rate Warships. Joseph Jones Autograph Letter Signed. Four pages of a bifolium, 8" x 9.75", Dinwiddie [Virginia]; April 9, 1794. Addressed to a Col. John Slith, the letter encloses letters (not included) to the commanding officers of Bruns, Greenville, Meckiling and Lunenburg counties and asks that Slith request a roster of the officers of each of those counties. Captain James Bullock Partial Document. One page, 7.5" x 12.5", [New Hampshire]; June 5, 1788. A partial "Return of the Company under my Command and their Equipments." Condition: Toned, soiled, and foxed. Moderate edgewear throughout with some torn edges. 1812 letter has 6" closed tear on verso with three areas of tape repair on verso. 1802 document has separated along integral fold.
