Provenance: From the estate of Mai Ruilin. Mr. Ruilin was born in Hebei and spent much of his life in Beijing during the first half of the 20th century, where he met many writers and painters. He collected extensively both in Beijing and in Hong Kong, where he relocated at the age of 49. After his death in the 1960s, the collection was brought to the United States from Hong Kong by his children.
