Dimensions: 9.875in H x 11.75in W x 11.75in D Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, blue & red dragon jar. The porcelain potted in jar shape, having thick potted body, sturdily potted in a bulbous body, ovoid belly on middle gently tapered on shoulder toward prominent, with short neck opening lip, and raised on small round foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue and red fine color. The main belly decorated with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a iron red color dragon squama rounded the bowl to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames. The shoulder festooned with repeating interlocking scrolling ruyi, geometric petals and auspicious motif on the foot base rim. And the neck adorned with geometric dot, banded and enclosed with single thick ring lines. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
