A SANDSTONE HEAD OF LOKESHVARA, KHMER, ANGKOR WAT PERIOD, 12th ct., mounted. The well-carved head sculpted with a serene facial expression displaying almond-shaped eyes below ridged eyebrows, aquiline nose, smiling lips, broken elongated earlobes, his hair combed in a high chignon set with a minute figure of Buddha Shakyamuni to the front and secured with a diadem carved in slight relief with a broad central band containing flower-heads flanked by pearl borders and topped with a triangular-shaped floral design and knotted at the backside Provenance: German private collection, former collection Gabriele Henkel (1931-2017), acquired prior 2000 - Rest. crack, minor age cracks
