[X] RARE PAINTING EMBELLISHED WITH KINGFISHER FEATHERS
China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century
Work carried out on a textile panel and enclosed in a box probably made of hongmu wood. A landscape with high mountains is depicted, which evokes works by the North Song painter Wang Ximeng / 王希孟 (1096-1119). It is crossed by a river that is spanned by a bridge that a scholar riding a mule crosses. In the upper right-hand part, a rare poem, taken from the collection compiled between 1773 and 1782 on commission from Emperor Qianlong, the Siku Quanshu / 四庫全書. The box is topped by a mobile hook for hanging and is sculpted with a decoration of esses (cracks in the box, missing in the composition).
Dimensions (the box): H: 74 cm - W: 54.5 cm - D: 3.8 cm
Notes :
1. The poem, entitled "萬磴氷鏤", reads as follows: "盤棧道兩峯玉削鎻巖闗蹇驢問彼衝寒者多少詩情得此間".
2. The "painting", for its part, marks by its polychromy, the multiplicity of its planes and its rare refinement. For example, a figure lost in the mountains can be seen. Moreover, plant species are clearly identified: pines, maples and flowering prunes, in particular.
