JADEITE BOAT
China, 20th century
Opaque white stone with "apple green" accents. Sculpted in flat but on both sides. It shows two Taoist immortals and three little boys (two in the front, one in the back) launched into the ocean crossing to Penglai Island. The sails are lowered. The waves are retranscribed at the base of the hull. The iconography continues up to the wooden base with the model of the waves.
