徐君萱是一位谦和、内敛而又甘于寂寞的油画家。他早年接受浙江美术学院（今中国美术学院）严格的油画训练，师从倪贻德、关良、方干民、胡善余等中国第一代油画大家，并得到了罗马尼亚现代艺术大师埃乌金·博巴的亲授，早在七十年代末就以其独特的审美品质和个人风貌享誉油画界。其作品注重意境、讲究气韵，并力求把中国传统绘画的理论与画法融于油画中，使之具有鲜明的民族特色。因为长期生活在苏州和杭州，所以他的创作经常以吴越风情、江南水乡为题材，表现那里景色的诗情画意和文化历史内涵。
