Chinese Ming Dynasty elaborate fan-shaped Hu-Wenming box from the Ming dynasty, with lid and four-cornered filigreed legs. Bordered central relief carving depicting a gnarled apricot tree, two magpies, pagoda, and two officials. At the four corners on the lid, Fu-bats soar toward the center image along with the continuation of flowering boughs covering much of the outer surface. All the carvings are offset with a lustrous colloid gold covering making them distinct from the dark background.
