Nickson, Graham b1946 American Reclining Chair. 19.25 x 19 ins., (49 x 48.25 cms.), Colour Lithograph printed in four colours with inky finger marks in the margin showing the complicated and intricate process of their making, Artist's Proof. The vendor acquired the three prints when attending an art course in Maidstone some years ago. She contacted Graham Nickson in America, and his assistant, Leanne, at the New York Studio School wrote back stating, "Graham has confirmed that the three attached images are his. Graham says that the unsigned prints are likely to be artist's proofs, which explains the absence of information. He also says all three are lithographs, not screen prints. Graham was happy to hear from you and know that these early works are being enjoyed so much." She also wrote about why the prints were in Maidstone, "Graham thinks that the person teaching in Maidstone taught before at Camberwell, where he studied. Perhaps the teacher brought student works with him so that he could show different techniques."
