Brnard spent the first part of his career as an artist sometimes seling is work on the street next to David Bomberg, who at that time sold his work for 30 shillings. Bernard continued to paint all his lif, but gradually spent more time in art administration, for which he was well suited with his very lively mind. He played a major part in defining art courses for art colleges throughout England amongst many other achievements.
