A FEMALE PORTRAIT Kangra, Pahari Hills, North India, late 19th century Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the vertical composition depicting a seated woman in rich marigold shalwar kameez posed to write, the balcony decorated with multi-lobed arches, the scene framed by a thin gold band then light floral tendrils and foliage, 20cm x 15cm, 27.75cm x 22.5cm including the cardboard frame. A similar painting was successfully sold at Bonhams London, 23 November 2011, lot 418.
