AN OTTOMAN-STYLE BLUE AND WHITE POTTERY CANDLESTICK Marked Theodore Deck, France, late 19th century Of typical Ottoman shape, resting on a tall splayed and stepped foot, with a bulbous shaft rising to a tulip-shaped candle holder, the shape imitating Islamic metalware models such as 14th/15th-century Mamluk pierced and silver-inlaid candlesticks and 17th-century Ottoman tulip candlesticks, the body painted in cobalt blue and covered with transparent glaze, the decoration consisting of a row of palmettes to the base, stylised split palmettes and interlocking vegetal tendrils to the centre, abstract geometric motifs at the top, tall cypresses to the shaft and candle holder, marked 'T-D' onto the base, 28cm high.
