Description
Translation provided by Youdao
A pair of polychrome enameled plaquesOf tall rectangular shape, depicting two halves of a snowy river landscape scene of a wood-carrying traveler crossing a bridge while two scholars engage in discussion in a wharf-side cottage, both plaques bearing the same 20-character inscription and red seals reading Zhu and Xuan; both now mounted to the same large wooden frame.
14 1/2in (36.8cm) height of plaques exclusive of mount (2).注脚The identical inscription on both plaques by the unidentified ceramicist is a allusion/variant of a poem by the Late Ming poet Xu Wei (1521-1593), the last stanza of which, (Hechu ren meihua?) seems an intentional homage to the work of He Xuren (1882-1940), the renowned master for snow scenes of this type.
