Chinese, paktong or white metal water pipe for smoking opium or tobacco, 19th - early 20th century. Pipe has rectangular base etched with landscape scene on one side, and bald figure against landscape on other, with characters on shorter sides. On top of the base is a raised, square lid that opens for tobacco or opium to be added, the smoking spout and another spout, possibly for ventilation; the top part of the latter comes out and reveals a long stem. Dimensions are: 9 1/2 inches high with spout X 2 5/8 inches long at base X 11/8 inches wide at base. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Grime in shorter spout of pipe and around the central vent of base. Otherwise in relatively good condition.
