Hublot's iconic "Big Bang" case combines carbon-fibre and "King Gold", a redder 18k gold alloy with an increased percentage of copper and platinum devised and used by Hublot's metallurgists. Improving on traditional precious metal alloys to enhance performance and appearance and exploring the expansive realm of materials available is at the core of Hublot's "Art of Fusion" philosophy. Making its auction debut this season, this extremely rare Hublot "Big Bang King Power" is numbered three of only ten pieces made. Caliber HUB8100, seen through the semi-skeletonised dial and sapphire crystal display back is painstakingly hand-assembled by Hublot's High Complications department. The traditional-style of manufacture used for this super rare, highly complicated timepiece takes the time of one highly skilled watchmaker, who handles its assembly from start to finish and sometimes requires up to three months for completion. Though the minute repeating mechanism of two hammers and Cathedral gongs is visible beneath the carbon fibre base plate, the slide is cleverly integrated as part of the "Big Bang" designed case. Similarly, the chronograph is activated through the rubber coated button atop the King gold crown. The Hublot "Big Bang King Power" truly embodies the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with innovation.
