They shared a common passion for time measurement and a watchmaking ethos. Urwerk was founded in 1997 and the same year they presented their first timepiece with the horological academy of independent creators AHCI at Baselworld. In 2001, the Reference UR-202 was unveiled with a patented revolving satellite hour complication with telescoping minute hand indication, now the signature of Urwerk wristwatches. The present example, Reference UR-202, was the first watch in the world to be regulated by fluid dynamics for the winding mechanism. The turbines could be manually adjusted to spin freely, reduced or stopped entirely depending on the wearer's activity level (Standard, Sport, Extreme). The twin turbines coupled with the twin winding rotor, act as shock absorbers to increase the lifespan of the movement.
