Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Islamic, ca. 12th to 14th century CE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery jar with a concave footed base, an apple-shaped body adorned by dozens of pattern-molded ribs, a rolled shoulder, and a squat neck with a thick rim. Both the interior and exterior are adorned with a thick glaze of pale and deep blue hues with only the underside of the foot being unglazed. Though much of the glaze has worn away, it has been replaced by utterly stunning layers of brilliant rainbow iridescence in a swirling palette of citrine, emerald, golden, sapphire, ruby, and amethyst hues. The iridescence is absolutely breathtaking in person, making it a simply opulent example of fine Islamic pottery! Size: 3.375" W x 3.425" H (8.6 cm x 8.7 cm). Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. #137631
