浙江西南有金粟山，山下有金粟寺。寺中曾藏北宋时的大藏经数千件，其每幅纸背上均钤有金粟山藏经纸朱文印，以此得名。藏经纸初以麻料制成，质地较厚，无纹理，内外皆蜡，有米黄色、白色、虎豹皮花纹等。乾隆时期官纸局仿制藏经纸以供御用，仿制要求极高，唯合格者由监制者在纸心上钤乾隆年仿金粟山藏经纸朱印。乾隆曾用于内府珍藏古书画装潢引首及册页题字。是清宫名贵的御用纸。
