Ca. 1070-664 BC. An interesting glazed steatite scarab with incised detail to the top to form naturalistic features of a scarab beetle. On the flat underside is inscribed with an image of the Eye of Horus, or wedjat-eye, a protective symbol used as a direct assocation with the falcon-headed deity Horus who protected over the pharaoh. The wedjat-eye symbol is an iconic image in ancient Egypt as amulets and scarabs were used by people of all positions.Size: L:17.3mm / W:13.3mm ; 1.29gProvenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection.
