Ca. 1400-1500 AD. A ceramic dish of grandeur and elegance, crafted with utmost finesse. The plate stands proud with its shallow body, resting delicately on a ring foot. Its rounded base evokes a sense of harmony and balance. A remarkable feature of this dish is its imitation of Chinese wares, a testament to the influence of the far east on the artistic sensibilities of the Mamluk dynasty. The design, intricate and ornate, is a marvel of symmetrical beauty. The central roundel is adorned with four flower heads, exquisitely detailed and finely crafted, surrounded by an intricate web of tendrils that weave in and out, creating a mesmerizing effect. This central motif is encircled by a decorative band of diagonal lines pattern, forming an elegant frame that accentuates the central design. Another wider band with flower heads adds a layer of complexity and depth to the dish, while the rim is adorned with a repeat of the diagonal pattern, bringing the entire design together in a harmonious and cohesive manner. During the Mamluk dynasty, ceramic production was at its peak, with pottery being produced on a grand scale. The Mamluk potters were renowned for their skill and creativity, and their influence can be seen in the many imitations of Chinese wares that were produced during this era. Size: L:70mm / W:300mm ; 820gProvenance: Private London collection; ex. UK art market prior to 2000.
