拍品为典型乾隆时期宫廷陈设佳器，为传统大运琢器之一。自康熙烧制宣统一朝，于乾隆成为定式，历朝延烧。
器形源于宋代酒器，因诗句中「玉壶先春」而得名，是为工艺难度较大的高温颜色釉品种。
拍品造型典雅，线条优美流畅。外壁罩施霁红釉，釉质丰润肥腴，釉面显现橘皮纹，呈色均匀纯正，因烧造难度较大，发色纯正者往往备受青睐，如本品形制周正，胎釉俱佳，殊为难得。
