(53.4 cm.) highPotter Palmer II (1875-1943)Potter Palmer II was the son of Potter (1826-1902) and Bertha Palmer (née Bertha Matilde Honoré; 1849-1918), who bequeathed the paintings that form the core of The Art Institute of Chicago’s much-admired Impressionist art collection. Potter Palmer II served as the president of the museum from 1925 to 1943, as well as a trustee for two decades, and he was also a member of the Orientals. He and his wife Pauline (née Pauline Blake Kohlsaat; 1882-1956) donated numerous Chinese works of art from their collection to The Art Institute of Chicago, and this exceptional family tradition of generosity was continued by subsequent generations of the Palmers.Details A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE EIGHT IMMORTALS DOUBLE-GOURD VASEJIAJING PERIOD (1522-1566)The vase is decorated with The Eight Immortals on the lower body and three depictions of Liuhai on the upper body and separated by bands of floral scroll at the waist, all between bands of ruyi-shaped cloud scroll at the mouth rim and petal lappets above the foot.21 in.
