此壶胎身以紫砂细泥调制，器表略呈泛紫，彩光隐现其间。笠盖、直颈、溜肩、弧腹、圈足，壶身线条柔中寓刚，略带方正之感，蕴含君子之风。弯流鋬环，细长韧劲，愈发突显出此壶精气神韵。
陈子畦，明朝天启至清康熙间（约1625－1690）人，作壶为时所珍，或云即陈鸣远之父。以善仿徐友泉著称，所制贴玉兰树段壶、南瓜壶，并有水洗、水滴、残荷湖蟹、瑞兽等传世，为明末清初的紫砂名家。清人吴骞《阳羡名陶录·家溯》：“陈子畦， 仿徐最佳，为时所珍。或云即鸣远父。
