HŌEN (1804 – 1867) Edo period, 19th Century Puppies A Japanese hanging scroll painting, kakejiku, ink and colour on paper, depicting two puppies at play, inscribed with a sealed poem to the left, signed Hōen and sealed, together with a fitted box 27.5cm high, 70cm long (3) - PROVENANCE: English Private Collection, acquired from Hiroshi Yanagi at Tokyo Gallery, Kyoto in the 1990s Hōen (1804 – 1867), born Nishiyama Seishō, is one of the most talented pupils of Matsumura Keibun and a top Maruyama Shijō school painter of his time.
