ROYAL INTEREST - QUEEN VICTORIA, RARE PAIR OF BLOOMERS & CHEMISE. A rare pair of Queen Victoria's hand sewn knee length bloomers or knickers, with a single button and draw string (approx 40-41inch waist, 30ins (76cms long). Embroidered to the waist line with a Royal Crest, VR cypher and number 23. Also with Queen Victoria's chemise or nightdress, with lace detailing around the collar and sleeves, also embroidered with a Royal Crest, VR cypher and number 32 (top of shoulder to hem is 42ins, 107cms long, hem is 38 1/2ins, 98cms across), and with a pair of associated leather slippers, with satin bows and cut steel buttons, with a makers label for 'Gundry & Sons, Makers to the Queen, The Princess & The Royal Family, 17 New Bond St, London', one marked inside 'Left' (approx 24.5cms long, approx size 5.5 so probably not Victoria's). (3) *These items have been inherited through the Oakden/Bickerton family line to the present owners. Their ancestor was a Lady of the Bedchamber who worked for Queen Victoria and presumably the artefacts were given to her. The bloomers were featured in a recent episode of the Antiques Roadshow. *CR Some stains and foxing in places to both garments, these have never been washed or cleaned as far as the vendors know.
