Circa 1863 The leather covered album containing forty-eight carte-de-visite (CdV) Japanese portrait studies, hand-coloured albumen prints, mounted on card, each 8.5 x 5cm, the leather covers decorated with metal studs, an ivory emblem and embossed metal clasps, the cover 15 x 12cm. Fビアト 手色彩名刺写真アルバム Felice Beato (1832 – 1909) was one of the earliest photographers active in East Asia. He lived in Japan between 1863 and 1884, establishing the first photographic studio in Yokohama. Carte-de-Visite was a small photograph mounted on a card being used as a visiting card, became fashionable in Victorian era in England.
