英文长介绍:This work approaches the artist's mature style, using light ink to depict the cow's body with clear and distinct brushstrokes. The visible strokes articulating the cow's body reference its ruggedness while the light and sparse outline of the cow's belly and back retain a softness. The boy kneeling on the back of the cow holds a rope in one hand and tree branch in his other, urging the cow forward. His hat strewn to his back, he gazes up at the lush plum blossoms with a thoughtful expression, his innocence paralleling that of the countryside. The striking plum branches surrounding the boy are drawn with opaque ink, then rubbed with a brush, using the "jinshi" technique to create a simple and naturalistic effect. It is no wonder that Li Keran's cow paintings are considered masterpieces, along with Qi Baishi's shrimp, Xu Beihong's horse, and Huang Zhou's donkey; together representing the four masters of Chinese ink painting in the 20th century.
